E-letter February 2020

February 19, 2020

Dear West View Family

The next month offers many opportunities for your growth into Christlikeness. I commend them to you:

ASH WEDNESDAY WORSHIP 10am and 7pm on Wednesday 26th February. Join us for this special service that marks both the start of Lent, and the beginning of our journey through Mark’s gospel.

Reading the Bible in a Challenging World: What Is Truth?

WHAT IS TRUTH?
Prof Wessel Bentley from the Research Institute for Theology and Religion at UNISA will lead this three week workshop. Topics will include “One God; Many Views”, “The Old Testament God” and “Tools for Reading Scripture”. There is no cost involved and no need to RSVP.

PURCHASE OF 80 BOSDUIF CRESCENT
As I shared with you on Sunday morning, we’re thrilled to announce that we are busy negotiating to purchase 80 Bosduif Crescent from our neighbours in order to accommodate the growth of West View College. The loans secured to fund the purchase will be serviced by West View College’s property fee. If you are in a position to assist with a 5 year loan to the church of any amount over R100 000 to help finance the purchase, please let me know before our Finance Meeting this Thursday morning 13th February. We see God’s hand in the timing of this opportunity, coming as it does when West View College is bursting at the seams.

FINANCIAL UPDATE
Income through tithes and offerings in January was an encouraging R469 000, R19 000 ahead of our budgeted income of R450 000. Thank you for your faithful generosity!

Anti-Bias Workshop Learning to Do Difference Differently

LEARNING TO DO DIFFERENCE DIFFERENTLY
Too often, our biases and blind spots torpedo our relationships with people of different races, nationalities, genders and ages. The Anti-Bias Workshop is a wonderful way to explore, together with a diverse spectrum of other Christ-followers, our differences and our similarities.

As participants get to know one another better and share stories and perspectives, they will also learn how to get to the place where our diversity is a blessing, rather than an obstacle, to Christian community.

Book your place @ lael@westview.org.za or +27 (0)12 660 2572 by Friday 28th February.

WELCOME ALIDA BOSHOFF
We welcome Alida Boshoff onto staff as the Director of Ditshego. Alida has long been a member of West View and has supported both Ditshego and Khuluma in many ways as a volunteer over the years. We are blessed to have her on staff in this important position.

TWIGS: Tweens In God’s Sight for Grade 4 – 7
TWIGS is our Friday night pre-teen Youth programme. Each Friday night is 2 hours of pure fun. This Friday we are having a swimming party! Bring your swimming gear and meet us at the church at 6pm. Please email Josua if you have any questions at josua@westview.org.za.

LAUNCH OF DITSHEGO’S LIBRARY
Wednesday 26 February @ 10am
Did you know that 80% of Gr4 children in S.A. can’t read with comprehension? Reading is essential for learning. We are leaping into 2020 with the launch of Ditshego’s Library to encourage a love for books. Would you like to become a Funda Friend? Commit to reading to 4 children for 2 hours on a Wednesday morning once a month. To RSVP contact Ruth (+27 (0)78 114 7851) or Nicky (+27 (0)83 601 7494)
