Dear West View family

UPDATE OF COVID-19 AND CONGREGATIONAL LIFE

We celebrate the hiatus in the pandemic that we are enjoying right now. Yesterday in Gauteng, a mere 98 people tested positive for COVID-19. Compared to the 11 000+ new infections that Gauteng experienced in the peak of the third wave, this is good news indeed. It has been wonderful to see so many of you back at in-person worship. Service times are 8h00 and 10h00 and we continue to practice the COVID-19 protocols (physical distancing, mask wearing and sanitising).

We’re busy planning for 2022 and we anticipate – due to the vaccination rollout and the warm weather – a mild fourth wave in January/February. The hope is that by the time the fifth wave hits us in the winter of 2022, new breakthroughs in the treatment of COVID-19 will significantly reduce hospitalisations and deaths due to the virus. COVID-19 will become endemic rather than a pandemic, and we will learn to live with it as we live with other viruses, getting an annual jab to offer us some protection.

In the meantime, we continue to practice the legislated protocols to ensure that we do indeed experience a mild fourth wave and that we guard one another’s health and honour the sacrifice of our healthcare workers.
