Dear West View family
This Sunday we enter the most holy week in the Christian calendar, and there’s lots of information to share with you. I look forward to seeing you at these services and events – whether your attendance is online or in person. Please remember, if you are worshipping online, to post a greeting in the chat or comment section – it really does heighten that sense of connectedness that we hunger for in this time of physical distancing. Remember also to share links to these events with anyone you believe may be blessed by joining them.
Men@Work Breakfast:
Join the men of West View for a breakfast this Saturday 27th March, 7h00 for 7h30 at the church. Bring your own cutlery and crockery, folding camp chair, sun hat, friend or relative, and a friendly attitude filled with Spirit. RSVP to Kobus (082 892 1971) or Adrian (082 902 9376)
Confirmation Service this Palm Sunday 10h00
Attendance at this service will exceed the 100 permitted at indoor services and so additional chairs will be placed outside under the trees. We encourage those who normally worship at 10h00 to switch to 8h00 for Palm Sunday, or to arrive early to secure a seat indoors. Please join me in praying for God’s blessing to rest upon our Confirmands.
Holy Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Online only)
We’re thrilled to have Revs Ralph Afghan, Wendy Walker and former Duke Intern Alex Thomas preaching at our online worship services on Holy Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The services will premiere at 08h30 each morning.
Maundy Thursday Service of Shadows (in-person and online)
Our in-person Tenebrae Service is at 7pm on 1st April. A .pdf liturgy to guide households in how to hold their own Tenebrae Service will be available on the website and via WhatsApp. I encourage those not joining us in person to hold your own Tenebrae Service in your home.
Good Friday Morning Worship (in-person and online)
In-person worship at 8h00 and 10h00. Online worship premieres at 8h30. The offering at all Good Friday Services supports the costs of seminary training for those called to proclaim the gospel. For eft offerings, please use “Good Friday” as a reference.
Remembrance Service on Good Friday at 5pm (in-person only)
This year’s Remembrance Service will be held outdoors. At the service, we’ll launch our White Ribbon Memorial Wall. Those attending will receive a white ribbon on which to write the name of their loved one and will then tie the ribbon to the palisade alongside the sanctuary. This Memorial Wall will remain as a place of remembrance and hope for the entire community of Centurion. If you know someone who is journeying through grief, please invite them to join you at this service.
Curry and Rice
Evening WA will be selling curry and rice on Good Friday 2 April afternoon before and after the memorial service at West View. The cost will be R30 per serving. Please place your order by filling in the digital form https://forms.gle/ic5bw5XVDxA8jys98. Collection is before and after the service of remembrance.
Easter Sunday (in-person and online)
Celebrate Jesus’ resurrection at the Sunrise Service at Mnandi Methodist Church (6am), in-person at West View (8h00 and 10h00) or online (8h30). All four services will be services of Holy Communion. For online communion, you can collect consecrated communion elements from the church office between now and Maundy Thursday (Mon – Fri 8h00 – 15h00).
GOOD GRIEF PREACHING SERIES STARTING 11th APRIL
The COVID-19 pandemic has reminded us that grieving is an inevitable part of living. Whether it be the loss of a loved one, the ending of a marriage, the emigration of children or the experience of retrenchment, loss which triggers grief is unavoidable. Join us as we explore how the words ‘good’ and ‘grief’ can, with God’s help, appear in the same sentence. If you long to help someone who is grieving but don’t know how, or if you are grieving yourself, be sure to worship with us during April. Daily devotions will be shared via Whatsapp whilst Small Group material will also be made available.
DITSHEGO BAGS OF HOPE
The covid infection rate has dropped, but it’s economic impact on our community has not. We’re continuing with Bottles of Hope, but in a small plastic ziploc bag as it’s unsafe for young children to carry glass bottles home.Fill a ziploc packet with the following to feed a family of 8 :
1 cup rice, 1 cup split peas, 1 cup lentils, 1 unwrapped stock cube, 1 packet soup powder.
Please drop packets off at the church office or at one of our drop off zones.
