Dear West View
Welcome to worship. Today is our Covenant service. The Covenant service is at the heart of Methodism's devotion and discipleship. In this service we joyfully celebrate God's gracious offer to Israel that "I will be their God and they shall be my people".
This offer is then extended beyond Israel to all women and men in Jesus Christ, who also provides the supreme example of what it is to live in such a relationship with God.
That relationship with God primarily involves the corporate life of the community of God's people. It is concerned with individuals within that group. On Wednesday we begin our Lenten journey. Henri Nouwen (writing out of the Northern Hemisphere) describes Lent as “the season during which winter and spring struggle with each other for dominance. This is an appropriate image because during this time of year the darkness and light within each of us can be locked in conflict”. Here at West View, we will be going through a series called the Disciple’s Heart during this Lenten period and I pray that we may all be renewed over the next 6 weeks as we discover the Disciple’s Heart for ourselves.
Your Servant for Christ’s sake
